the beers of FUTENMA part 3: Monchshof Schwarzbier

My buddy Hilgar suggested I try this beer, it was in the sampler box so I thought "why not". It has the same bottle as the hells, I'm really going to hate putting this in the recycling. It emits a nice "pitth" sound when I open it. It smells like rye bread, or maybe whole grain. I took my first sip and then immediately took a second. It tastes like a porter, which I'm not surprised by as it's a cold brewed dark lager. It has a very dark chocolate taste to it with small hints of coffee. I almost don't want to drink it, just let it sit in my mouth and marinate my tongue so I can have this flavor for the next few days.
I can see a head forming in the bottle, I wonder how much would form if I poured it into my Orion mug. after about a minute, the head has dissipated. texture wise, it has a weight to it, much like a porter. I hate comparing it to porter again, but that's what I know. I'm going to put on some music as I drink this, it makes me happy.
I'm putting on Zager and Evans 1969 classic "in the year 2525". Good lord, they greatly underestimated how fast we would do pretty much everything they are talking about.
Five stars- Atom Bomb baby, I discovered this song when it was in the Fallout 4 trailer. It have quickly become one of my favorite oldies, write after praise the lord and pass the ammunition. "atom bomb baby, loaded with power, radioactive as a TV tour, a nuclear fission in her soul, loves with the electronic control"

One thing I can say about this beer vs porter is that it has a much more mild flavor. I can take a mouthful of this, while a porter I would just take little sips.Great beer, at 4.9% alcohol it isn't too much to have with a nice meal. I like this quite a bit, it has my seal of approval.

The beers of FUTENMA part 2: San Miguel's RED HORSE!

Tonight I review RED HORSE extra strong brew, the devil of the Philippines, the horse, the ride into the drunken sunset, the night ender, the extra strong punch in the face of sobriety, the bad night, the life wrecker. It's 8% alcohol, $4.95 a six pack, and a wild ride.
Red Horse is a strong pale lager brewed by SMB in Hong Kong, the same brewery that brews and markets Kirin and Samuel Addams (both under license) to China and the South Pacific. They also used to distribute  Anheuser-Busch InBev products before realizing that they are the Satan of brewers.

So lets crack one of these baby's open. And to do that we turn to my favorite bottle opening tools
because I'm classy

It has a mild lager smell to it when I open the bottle, I'm going to use my nice Orion mug that I've let chill for a while.
When I pour it in, the beer does not create a large head, partially because I'm a professional at pouring, and partially because it's not a very heady beer.
The first sip has a mild apple like flavor. It's pleasant, I honestly cannot taste the alcohol. I have a much more substantial drink, it has a nice flavor, tastes much more like an ale than a lager. My, does that go down smooth. It's not a very filling beer, and I can already feel it's effects after just half a glass. This is why I call it the devil. It's good, real good, and that's what makes it dangerous. But you know me, I make a living handling explosives and my favorite hobbies are firearms and flying metal deathtraps (old cars, trucks, and attack helicopters)
I'm going to make some yakisoba and continue this review
With food, Red Horse it straight up refreshing. I'm telling y'all, high ABV beer and Japanese noodles are a great combination.
I give Red Horse two thumbs up. For something made by a massive brewing company, it's pretty good. This is a bachelors beer, something you don't want around the wife and kids, but out with the boys. Maybe I'm biased, I've had some good times hanging with the horse, but I think anyone who likes a generally good beer can appreciate it.

The beers of FUTENMA part 1 Monchshof Bayerisch Hell

I got this beer at the Futenma PX in a eight beer Monchshof sampler for $11.

Nice porcelain resealable top, shame its in Japan, I would love to pack my empties in a box in the back of the truck and take them to my Dad so he can use them for his beers. But I digress. When I pop the top off, there is no loud explosion of carbon gas, which is nice as it is about 0530 and my roommate is sleeping (I'm night crew, this is when I drink). My impressions of my first sip is that this beer really tastes like bread, I mean, this is a really bready beer. It has a kind of barley taste to it, which I like, and a Lager like weight to it. It is not a particularly striking beer, other that the breadyness, but it's not bad. It comes in at a pleasant 4.9% alcohol by volume, so you're not going to get wrecked having a few with lunch at a family gathering (not to say we won't try, I mean, it's a family gathering). As for after taste, just a sort of bread taste, same as the initial sip. Just not allot to say about this one, it doesn't leave much of an impression, the best part about it was the price.
