I've talked about Aquarius before (earlier today). Having just drank Pocari Sweat, I think I will be able to accurately compare the two. The Aquarius is defiantly sweeter, not quite the same grapefruit bite to it. That's bout the only real difference. The Aquarius is a Coca-cola product and comes in a tall boy can for ¥120 out of every other vending machine in Okinawa.
Next is Orangina. According to the can, it was born in France and bottled in Japan (although that's a bit of a misnomer, it's a can). It also advertises that it is Sparkling and has orange pieces. For those of you who don't know, In Japan they like pieces of fruit floating in their fruit drinks. I have had Orangina before, never noticed any orange pieces. Maybe I missed something, lets find out.
Honestly, if you have ever had flavored San Pellegrino or Perrier mineral water, that is what this tastes like. I am not sure whether this is artificially carbonated or just mineral water, lets ask Google. It's carbonated water.
I like the fact that it isn't sickly sweet, and kind of has an orange rind flavor. I hope that's not off putting, It really is good. The can has a 12% at the bottom, which I can only assume means it is 12% juice. Probably the best part about this soda is that it does not taste artificial. I cannot tell you how sick and tired I am of the artificially flavored, high fructose corn syrup laden, syrupy American sodas. Allot the the drinks available in the Pacific are a nice change of pace.
I got to some of the bits of orange pulp, they are not very big, hardly noticeable really. I would not have noticed they were there if I had not been warned.
So to sum up. Aquarius is a nice drink, kind of a sweeter Pocari Sweat. Orangina is a less sweet orange soda flavored with real orange. Both are quite nice, and Orangina is actually available in the States, although it is made by DR. Pepper Snapple and not Suntory.
