Today, we have the Monchshof Lager. the two beers I have had from Monchshof have either been fantastic or not bad, so I have decent expectations from this beer.
This beer spit in my face when opening it, this is why I'm not a huge lager fan, they just have no respect. The beer smells just like you would expect a decent lager to in that
it has a mild yeasty bread smell. I'm going to paraphrase Jim
Gaffigan to explain what the first two sips tasted like. “Oh, this
is more lagery than regular lager... it's got a lager kick to it”.
And indeed it does for the first couple of sips. After that you get
used to the taste, and then it's just like any other lager. It has
the lager carbonated frothyness, it has the lager taste, it has the
lager weight. It is what it is and it is a lager. Not that lagers are
bad, but they are kind of mundane, aside from them assaulting you
when you open them. I guess that's another reason I'm not much of a
fan of this style.
